About Fred Thompson
Executive Community Leader Veteran
Fred Thompson, 60, is a recently retired president and chief executive officer of a successful wood waste energy facility. His years of experience providing jobs and meeting payrolls, saving threatened businesses and their employees, and reducing energy needs while maintaining profitability give him a clear-eyed vision into what needs to change in the Washington insider culture. As a Congressman, Fred will take the same common-sense approach to the difficult issues of the day that he did while in business.
Fred and his two brothers grew up on and around his grandparent’s dairy. Joining in to the Army in 1968, he served in Germany with the First and Thirty-Second Field Artillery Unit and in Vietnam with the 101stAirborne Division. Fred immediately began his college education after separation from the Army in 1971, but family commitments caused him to suspend his studies after his father’s tragic suicide in 1974. He later went on to earn both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. In the meantime, Fred is married to wife Stephanie and is raising two sons, Connor, 13, and Sean, 11.
Fred Thompson knows how to create prosperity for the citizens of Oregon- he’s done it successfully for decades. He knows the importance of the opportunity for an education- he pursued his education despite stiff personal obstacles. He knows the nature of commitment to family and country- his life experiences make it clear.
Fred Thompson’s passion, dedication, and experience will make him a Congressman that the 5th CD can finally be proud of.
