Fred Thompson Running for Congress
I’ve spent most of my professional life trying to put prosperity within reach of the average Oregonian. It has never been easy maintaining a successful business or keeping people employed or fending off the excesses of government or keeping the fruits of your own labor, but it may soon be impossible.
We Oregonians are starting to realize that the main purpose of the Pelosi/Reid agenda is to put Federal bureaucrats in charge of many, many aspects of our lives. Washington insiders assume they know best, and that we need to make our life choices by their rules. Washington will dole out healthcare regardless of need, mandate how and what our children learn in school, choose the economic winners and losers, prescribe which resources we can and can’t use, and tell us where and how we live.
While there may be “a certain relief in change, even though it be from bad to worse” (Washington Irving), the type and pace of change being sought by the current majority party won’t be from bad to worse: it will be from bad to disastrous. The Democratic majority in Congress seems to believe that we really can tax our way to prosperity and that a future of chronic indebtedness is just fine. I am convinced that liberty, prosperity, and equity cannot come about through the agenda of the current Congress.
My candidacy for the 5th CD is my personal line in the sand, I must take action. I recognize we can’t just shout “stop the world, I want to get off!” There are real problems that governments must address, real people that need help, and real commitments that must be met. But the proposals and actions of the Obama/Pelosi/Reid junta take us in a direction with which most Americans will disagree.
Oregonians deserve a Congress that recognizes the unique needs and hopes of its citizens. The Oregon Trail led to a land of unlimited opportunity and hope. I invite you to join with me in keeping this dream alive for us and all Americans.
